The new 22 mile (35.27km) M35 motorway is a motorway connecting the M3 motorway with Debrecen, in Eastern Hungary. It provides the city with a direct motorway link to the capital, Budapest.
The section bypassing Debrecen was completed in April 2006, and the whole stretch of road was opened to the public on 15th December 2006. The new road reduced driving time between Debrecen and the capital to under 2 hours. In the next decade the M35 will be extended toward the Romanian border and Oradea.
