One of Sri Lanka's distinguished civil servants Mapatunage Jamis Perera (M. J. Perera) was born on 14th December 1914 in Padukka and educated at Nalanda College Colombo and at University of Ceylon.
He was the first Ceylonese Director General of the then Radio Ceylon, Founder Chairman of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the country's First Competent Authority.
From the position of Assistant Government Agent he rose to be Chairman of Corporations and Permanent Secretary of Ministries serving in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service for over 48 years.
