m-flo is a Japanese hip hop group consisting of producer and DJ Taku Takahashi and emcee VERBAL as of 2002, ever since the former member Lisa left the group.
As to the origins of the group's name, VERBAL had explained that it was originally "mediarite-flow," an intended misspelling of meteorite, but for the Japanese that name was too long, and so Avex had requested that the name be shortened to m-flo. VERBAL had commented that "There's no deep meaning to it. I guess we wanna have impact like a meteorite."

Aliases: ☆TAKU, Taku Takahashi, Startak
Born Taku Takahashi in Yokohama City, Japan on March 29, 1974. Taku and VERBAL met in Setagaya-ku's St. Mary's International School (Class of 1993). Outside of the m-flo umbrella, Taku has produced tracks for such artists as Crystal Kay and melody. He also once had his own label, Tachytelic Records, which housed Emi Hinouchi. Being the DJ in m-flo, Taku's voice is rarely heard in m-flo music. In many songs, Taku may be heard saying short, disconnected phrases such as "Let's Go!". He has had substantial rap lines only in a small number of tracks, including "The Rhyme Brokers", "gET oN!" and "VANESSA".

[edit] Video Games
M-flo had contributed to the video games industry by either providing songs for games, or by advertising for these games. For the first versions of the video game Beatmania IIDX, M-flo has contributed short versions of the songs "L.O.T. (Love Or Truth)", "Mirrorball Satellite 2012", "The Theme from flo jack", "been so long", and "The Rhyme Brokers". Another music video game, Dance Dance Revolution, featured the songs "The Theme from flo jack", "been so long", and "The Rhyme Brokers".
A version of the track "TRIPOD BABY" (from the album BEAT SPACE NINE) was re-released for the Shadow the Hedgehog video game that came out in November 2005. A commercial for the game, featuring Taku and Verbal, was also aired. Taku and Verbal are big fans of the character Shadow.
