M-212 is a state trunkline highway in the U.S. state of Michigan. M-212 was designated in order to provide access from M-33 to both the small community of Aloha on the eastern shore of Mullett Lake, as well as to Aloha State Park, where the highway ends. M-212 is the shortest state highway in Michigan.

[edit] Route description

The M-212 designation starts at Second Street in the small commnity of Aloha, next to the entrance to Aloha State Park. From the western terminus it travels east over flat terrain to connect with M-33. The entire length is called Center Street.[3]

It is notable for being the shortest state highway in Michigan at .732 miles (1.178 km), beating out the second shortest, M-168, which registers at 1.022 miles (1.645 km). M-212 even beats out Michigan's shortest business loop, BUS M-32 in Hillman, which comes in at 0.738 miles (1.188 km), only about six-thousandths of a mile longer.[1]

[edit] History

M-212 was designated as a spur from then US 23 on 1937-12-29.[2] In 1940, M-33 replaced the US 23 designation when the latter was realigned to follow a routing along the Lake Huron shoreline.[4] No other changes have been made to M-212 since.[5]
