Mühlbachl is a municipality in the district Innsbruck-Land and is located 15 km south of Innsbruck. Mühlbachl extends from the southern slopes of Schönberg im Stubaital along Matreiwald to Steinach (to the aperture of the Navistal). Rumor has it that the location was already founded 3000 years ago. It has 1372 inhabitants and the Sill River flows through it. Mühlbachl is aligned in many ways with Matrei am Brenner, Pfons and to some extend to Navis.

The districts of Mühlbachl are: Matreiwald, Zieglstadl, Altstadt, Mühlbachl, Mützens, Obfeldes, Statz and the place of pilgrimage Maria Waldrast. The village has no real center.

The highest point is the 2718m high Serles, once named the "high altar of Tyrol by Goethe
