Märkisches Viertel (MV) is a locality in the borough of Reinickendorf in Berlin. It consists of a large housing estate of about 17,000 apartments with high-rises up to 16 floors that was built from 1964 to 1974 by the GeSoBau Gesellschaft für sozialen Wohnungsbau (Association for Social Apartment Construction). In the east it shares border with the Rosenthal and Wilhelmsruh localities of the Pankow borough. Originally a part of Wittenau, it became an officially recognized locality of its own in 1999.
In 2003 Märkisches Viertel had about 36,000 inhabitants. The rapper Sido and most of the crew of "Aggro Berlin" grew up and live here.[citation needed]
