Máire Hoctor (born 1963) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. She is a TD for the constituency of Tipperary North. She is to be Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, the Department of Social, and Family Affairs and the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government (with special responsibility for services for older people). She will be appointed to junior ministerial office after the government choses three extra Ministers of State upon the passage of the Ministers and Secretaries (Ministers of State) Bill 2007. This future appointment was announced by the Taoiseach to the Dáil on 26 June 2007.[2] Hoctor was first elected to Dáil Éireann in the 2002 general election. She was re-elected at the 2007 general election. She was educated at St. Mary’s Secondary School, Nenagh and St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth (B.A. Th., H DipEd.). Before her election she worked as a secondary school teacher.

She is a member of the following:

  • Vice Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture & Food.
  • Government Convener of Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women’s Rights.
  • Member of Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education & Science.
  • Director of Nenagh Community Reparation Project.
  • Director of Young Nenagh Project.

  2. ^ In Dáil Éireann on 26 June 2007 the Taoiseach informed the house the ministries to which the government had appointed the Ministers of State. He also informed the house that John McGuinness, Jimmy Devins and Máire Hoctor would be recommended by him to the government for appointment as Ministers of State once the necessary legislation is passed.
