[edit] Notability of Clifton family
A tag has been placed on Clifton family, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. CJ 18:10, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Clifton family, & families in general
This is not for speedy--there is room for divergence of opinion about notability on this article. I suggest a discussion on the article talk page. (And, if there is no consensus there, then obtaining one at AfD.
I simply do not know whether or not pages like this are a good idea., They may be: combining paragraphs for relative minor members of a family is a way of handling intermediate between a full article and a redirect, and may be the solution to our problems with gentry and minor nobility. The problem, of course, is the standards to be used, both for having he page at all, and for what goes in it. It is actually easier to remove non notable pages at AfD than to remove non-notable paragraphs from an article if there is opposition. So I see it both ways, and I think this page is a good opportunity to explore the possibilities and the problems presented. DGG
(s a separate matter, the page absolutely needs some sources).DGG 19:45, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Lytham Hall
And the article on the family seat as well. There must be references. They should be easy to find: the Victoria County History will certainly include it. As you're probably in the UK, it should be available at all major libraries there--certainly the country volumes will be in libraries located in the county. (In the US, most of the larger university libraries have sets). I can't emphasize this too much---the articles in WP, especially if they are in any way questionable or questioned, must have sources from published works. And they need to be wikified, see [1] and the help pages referred to there. It really has to be done right now. It cannot be put off, because uncited articles about people or things whose notability is not breath-takingly obvious are usually listed for deletion very soon after they've been created.
