Lyttelton Road Tunnel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lyttelton Road Tunnel links the New Zealand city of Christchurch and its seaport, Lyttelton. The road tunnel was completed in 1964 and is currently the longest road tunnel in New Zealand.
The 20 cent toll to use the tunnel was abolished in 1978. [1]
The tunnel is used by about 10,600 vehicles daily (2006 count). [2]
For many years, cyclists were allowed to bike through the tunnel on one day a year (see for example [3]).
