Lysøen

Lysøen is an island in Os, Hordaland in Norway. The island is famous for the home of the violinist Ole Bull.
The island were originally used as a farm established around 1670. The island was bought by Ole Bull in 1872 who constructed the famous villa. It was Ole Bull himself who drew the building under the supervision of the architect Conrad Fredrik von der Lippe. The wooden building is built in a very special manner including many architectural styles. It has its own tower and a lot of wooden carvings.
The 700 decare large island has 13 km of walkways and a viewpoint where Ole Bull had a large tower built.
The island was given to The society for the Preservation of Norwegian Ancient Monuments, (Fortidsminneforeningen) in 1973 by Ole Bulls granddaughter Mrs. Sylvea Bull Curtis. Today the villa serves as a museum in the summer and is also used for concerts under the annual Bergen International Festival.
