Lyriciss
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lyriciss (born Robert Bailey on February 1, 1988), is an American hip-hop artist from the Washington, DC metro area. Notarized from his single, "They Fakin"[1], which mixed a hybrid of go-go and hip-hop (a style first made popular from DC area rapper Wale[2]), and the success of his first mixtape, Vol.1: Look At My Life[3].

[edit] Biography
(Bio taken from Lyriciss's MySpace page)[4]
When asked what he brings to the table in a world where the hip-hop game is oversaturated with bland, formulaic MCs, 20-year-old Washington DC/PG County, Maryland native Lyriciss answers, "A young black voice out of an unknown area (hip-hop wise) speaking on real-life issues with a lyrical focus. Nowadays, you speak to the majority of the other 20-year-old rappers from this area, no disrespect to them, but all they're going talk about is what cars they got and really don't got, how much money they have when they really don't have it, and how many females they get when they're really either bunned up with a joint or can't pull a female to save their life." Born in the Riggs Park section of N.E. Washington, D.C., Lyriciss (ne' Robert Bailey) knows both sides of the fence, as he moved into Prince George's County's suburbs. While in elementary school at the age of 9, young Robert discovered his ability to rap, an art form of music he'd loved since a baby. As he entered middle school, he began writing lyrics down, an act that would distract him from his work and constantly get him in trouble. These were also the years when Robert got into the battling scene at school, where it didn't take long to be known as the best freestyler in the school. He proceeded with the battles into high school, taking challengers at the schools he attended (Eleanor Roosevelt High and Parkdale High), then traveling to other schools for battles. In 2004, Lyriciss met up with H-Tips and FCG Ent., prompting the beginning of his recording career. Now, at the age of 20, he's already developed the mind of a businessman, focusing on the growth and future of his career. While unsigned, he is strongly affiliated with Prolific Ent., H/H Global Ent., and FCG Ent. With the recent surge of attention brought on to the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) hip-hop scene, Lyriciss is asked if he feels any competition in the race to get signed. "None at all", he replies. "Why? Because one, I know where my skills are with the lyrics...I know it, the people that hear the music know it, and that's the end of that. Two, because anyone in this area trying to make it and have true love for the music, I show love to them and I consider them family. So competition isn't even an issue to me. Hell, I'm not even worried about getting on, so much as getting my message heard. I have something to say, something that NEEDS to be heard. And when that happens, the world WILL listen."
[edit] Early Career
Lyriciss officially started his music career at the age of 16, working with fellow local artist, H-Tips and FCG Ent. After dropping one official mixtape and branching off, he worked with H/H Global Ent.[5] in 2007, recording for a planned, yet shelved, compilation album.
In 2008, Lyriciss branched off again, working closely with artists NandoMcFlyy., Marky (who is signed to Studio 43/SRC Records/Universal Records), and AB The Producer (signed to Studio 43), to form the collaborative group, The 43ntourage.
In May of 2008, Lyriciss announced his departure from the group. Lyriciss also did two shows in New York City in early 2008 - the GrungeCake Crisis Magazine Launch Party[6] the DeadStock Sneaker Convention.
In April 2008, Lyriciss announced his affiliation with Virginia-based record label, Prolific Entertainment, run by CEOs David "City Champ" Rosario & Whitney "DJ AbstraKt" Lea.
Lyriciss has also managed to obtain clothing sponsorship from two streetwear brands, Aplomb Clothing[7] and Aja Imani Custom Outfitters.
