The Lynx Gang (sometimes known as The Lynx Crew) is a Birmingham-based gang that was founded in the 1970s, initially to protect the local Asian (most notably of Mirpuri Kashmiri and Pathaan origin) community from skinheads. Later the gang transformed into a violent criminal gang, due to the ghettolisation and deprivation of the Mirpuri-Kashmiri community in the city.
The gang was founded in the Small Heath area of the city, but later spread to the Birmingham boroughs of Lozells, Handsworth, Alum Rock, Sparkhill, Sparkbrook and Aston. Rival gangs include the Muslim Birmingham Panthers, Burger Bar Boys, the Sikh Shere Punjab and the Redheads. The Lynx Gang is one of the earliest gangs to form in the city, and has become one of the largest, with an estimated membership exceeding 3000 members. Moazzam Begg is an ex-member of the gang.[1]
