Lynagh's

Lynagh's Pub is a popular Irish pub for University of Kentucky students located near the William T. Young Library in Lexington, Kentucky. The pub serves mixed drinks, a range of drafts, and pub grub.

The original pub opened in 1981 across Euclid Ave in an older building that still operates as a competing pub and eatery. The original pub was one of the first in the area to serve imports, and began operation with only a beer license. The move to the strip mall across the street split the old Lynagh's into two venues. One food and drink oriented, and the other a live music venue. The latter was known as Lynagh's Club and closed in 2002.

The founder, John Broderick Lynagh, is a gregarious character and is well-known around town. A former professor at the University of Kentucky, upon his separation from the University, he opened the original Lynagh's.

Lynagh's expanded to other locations over the years. First was Lynagh's Shamrock Bar & Grill. This location is still open. An Irish fine dining restaurant, featured in Southern Living Magazine was another venture. Located near the Red Mile harness race track, Lynagh's Irish Spring House did not stay open long and has since been demolished.

Currently Lynagh's operates pubs at Patchen Drive and Hartland Parkway as well.
