Lydo Wolf
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lydo Wolf is a fictional character from the anime metaseries Mobile Suit Gundam, specifically the Mobile Suit Variations series. He also appeared in the strategy games Gihren's Greed.
Lydo Wolf was an ace fighter (later Mobile Suit) pilot of the Earth Federation. His skill was such that he earned the nickname Dancing Black Death (躍る黒い死神 Odoru Kuroi Shinigami?) due to his elaborate maneuvers in combat.
[edit] Story
Lydo Wolf started out as a fighter pilot, demonstrating exceptional talent. He came to be known as the "Dancing Black Death" for his successes in battle (no small feat when fighters of his day were, for the most part, no match for Mobile Suits). Like Zeon ace pilots (and legendary ace pilot the Red Baron), his fighters were painted in his personal colours. In his case, this was black.
When the Earth Federation began fielding their own Mobile Suits, beginning with the RGM-79 GM, the Federation began retraining fighter pilots as Mobile Suit pilots. Lydo Wolf was among them. Like many fighter pilots turned MS pilots, he preferred fast lightly-armoured units. He piloted a GM Cannon, then later a Mass Produced version of the RX-77 Guncannon before receiving a GM Sniper II. The GM Sniper II was one of the GM variants with power matching (if not surpassing) that of the Gundam itself. All his Mobile Suits were painted black, making him as easily identified by the Zeons as the Zeon aces like Char Aznable and Johnny Ridden were by the Federation.
Despite his skill, he was killed in action at the climatic battle of A Boa Qu.
