Lydd Town was a railway station in Lydd, Kent, England. It was orignally opened on December 7, 1881. It was originally owned by 'The Lydd Railway comapany who was chairmaned by Alfred Mellor Watkin.
In February 1882 it was decided that the Lydd railway company would be worked and maintained by the South Eastern Railway.
After the SER was absorbed into the South Eastern and Chatham Railway, then to be absorbed at grouping by the Southern.
What with a relaid part of the railway down to Dungeness to try and get tourist traffic Lydd station was renamed 'Lydd Town' in 1937.
The Southern was absorbed by the BR.
In 1963 Dr Beeching published a report saying to close Lydd Station and the branch line. With the passenger service being withdrawn in 1967 and the goods service withdrawn in 1971 it was complete closure for Lydd station.
Although attempts have been made to re open the branch line to passengers all have been unsuccessful. The line remains open to serve Dungeness Power station.
