Die Gräfin von Montfort befreit einen zum Tode verurteilten Gerber auf dem Weg zum Galgen. Dieser hatte Leder gestohlen und verkauft, um die Gunst seiner Liebhaberin nicht zu verlieren. Im Vordergrund flieht diese in die Freistatt der Kirche.
