Luxomni is an old fart who bought one of the first Apple_II computers (s/n 3996). He bought it in the hopes of having an automatic typewriter for writing letters announcing availability and unavailability for work in the motion picture industry. Before he could make that happen, he got a job working on the first 10 episodes of the TV show The Dukes of Hazzard. Other feature films he has worked on are "Grizzly", "the Slugger's Wife", "Sharky's Machine", "Coward of the County", "Little Darlings", "G.O.R.P.", "Our Winning Season", "Greased Lightning", "Sixpack", and "Scalpel".

While Luxomni was away from home on "the Dukes of Hazzard", he lent the computer to his brother, Thom, who parlayed the knowledge he got from the old red Apple manual into a job repairing computers for a contractor who served the U.S. Navy. Luxomni went to work for the same company when he finished working on the series. After a year, Luxomni went back to show business, this time traveling with Rock-and-Roll shows as a rigger. The contractor went bankrupt and his brother went on to establish a database system on an NCR unix box for some friends' company. Eventually Luxomni's brother Thom went to work for another computer company, Masscomp where he allowed Luxomni to dial in and explore the Unix based computer after hours. Thus Luxomni became a superuser on unix prior to learning CP/M prior to learning DOS fully a decade before Windows. Later Thom went on to work for Cray Computers, and finally, Sun Microsystems.

I regret to inform you that my brother, Thom, died of complications of ALS on October 1, 2006. I will miss his humor and counterpoint.

[edit] Throat Cancer

Luxomni developed throat cancer in late 2004. He underwent 37 radiation treatments with Amifostine and nine weeks of chemotherapy. He is currently cancer free and recommends early detection and treatment as a path to the cure.

[edit] Wikipedia philosophy

  • I'm inclusionist by nature. Wikipedia isn't paper. But notability guidelines are generally good and self-promotion belongs on one's own User Page.
  • Brevity can be better. But don't be too succinct to convey the information.
  • I don't think recentism is a serious flaw, but as time moves on editing for clarity and relevance will generally improve an article.
  • Categories and lists help people find stuff.
  • This is a hypertext encyclopedia. Link to things that are relevant. You can never have too many links. Besides, articles look good in blue.
