Luscar, Alberta
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Luscar was at one time a coal mining town in Alberta, Canada. It is situated about 12 kilometers (7 mi) northwest of Cadomin along the Bighorn Highway (Highway 40), at the end of the CN Railway line.
The original underground mine opened in 1921, and continued until the mid 1950's. Since 1970, Luscar has been the site of an open pit coal mine, now operated by Luscar Ltd., Canada's largest coal producer. Luscar Ltd. was acquired by Sherritt International in 2001. Nothing remains of the former town.
