LUP may refer to:

  • Lift Upgrading Programme in Singapore
  • Lead units of pressure, see Copper units of pressure
  • Kalaupapa Airport in Kalaupapa, Hawaii (IATA Code: LUP)
  • Lifeless Undead Phenomenon; A term originating in Richard Matheson's short horror fiction story "Dance of the Dead" (RXR, Inc. 1995, p. 219). In this story, set after World War II, there was a "banned" or secret circus act that suspended dead bodies and subjected them to electric shocks, creating the "dance of the dead", from whence the term "loopy." Matheson is known most recently for the Will Smith movie "I am Legend" (2007), even though the original vampire story itself was published in 1954, and added many elements to vampire legend. Matheson raises humorous "serious" questions like: would a Jewish or Muslim vampire be afraid of the Torah or Quran instead of a cross? Other famous movies taken from Matheson's strange, dark and brilliant stories include A Stir of Echoes and What Dreams May Come (Fascinating movie starring a famous American comedian and recent law and order maven/ detective). Stephen King admits much of his work has been inspired by Matheson, and he has been called one of the greatest living horror writers.
