Luna, La Union

Luna is a 4th class municipality in the province of La Union, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 32,259 people in 6,561 households.
Past mayors include Rufino and Geoffrey Tongson, Ancheta, Aragon, Timoteo Sta Romana, and others.
Timoteo M. Sta Romana, an ex-mayor from the 1960s, founded the LNHS (Luna National High School) which is located in Barrientos. It has also annexes located in the barangays of Rimos and Cantoria. LNHS has earned a reputation through its winnings in numerous division, regional, and national contests, both academics and sports. It has a student population of approximately 1,400, almost each is a resident of Luna. It produces bi-annual student publication: The Gravel and Ang Sirmata. Both of the school papers had been winning in division and regional level competitions. LNHS is known for its vast playing grounds and mini-forest which provides tranquility to students and visitors alike. It is nationally-known for its excellent athletes, particularly in the fields of athletics. Having a teaching force of more than 80, LNHS is one of the most promising and excellent schools entire Region I. Other high schools found in the municipality are Oanari National High School (formerly LNHS-Oaqui Annex) and the only Diocesan School in the municipality--Santa Catalina Academy.
In addition, one can easily find a public elementary school at almost every barangay of Luna. Though these are public schools, they have also starred in contests in science, mathematics, english, cheering and drum & lyre exhibition.
Luna is also known for its beautiful beaches, particularly in Nalvo Sur and Darigayos. Beach shades and cottages and resorts are also found in these barangays. The municipality is also known for its native delicacies and pottery products which are comparable to San Juan's.
