Coordinates: 25°45′N 93°10′E / 25.75, 93.17 Lumding is a city and a municipal board in Nagaon district in the Indian state of Assam. It is the regional divisional headquarters of the North East Frontier Railway, a big important junction and is famous for the Barak Valley Express which passes through scenic routes.

As of 2001 India census[1], Lumding had a population of 25,184. Males constitute 56%of the population and females 48%. Lumding has an average literacy rate of 52%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 58%, and female literacy is 53%. In Lumding, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The town Lumding has a number of secondary schools and high schools like [[Railway Higher Secondary School]], Don Bosco School, Pranab Vidyapith, National Higher Secondary School,,Pranabananda Vidya Mandir, Dakshin Lumding High School, Kendriya Vidyalaya School and a few other primary schools.

The town also has a college, Lumding College, affiliated to the Guwahati University.

Lumding College is sitauted in a very reachable distance with easy mode of transportation. From Lumding Railway Station one can reach the college through Auto Rickshaw which will be normally charged @20-30INR and nearby to the college is Lumding Sub Post Office with the SDO Telephone Exchange Office.

The college is well known for its education and its dedicated team of teachers in all the departments. The college is well equipped with Computer facilities and encourages different curriculam activity for the students. For the last 10 years the college has seen a tremendous growth in number of students coming from the nearby place for admission.
