Luke Murphy (born Rode Heath, Cheshire on October 21, 1989) is an English professional footbeller currently playing for League One club Crewe Alexandra.
[edit] Career
Murphy began his career as a youth trainee at south Cheshire club Crewe Alexandra at the age of seven. At fifteen, he became part of the Crewe side that progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup. In his final year as a scholar at the club, he was a regular in the youth side that managed fourth in a league of ten teams finishing behind champions Manchester City, Everton and Manchester United. In May 2008, Murphy was one of six youth team players to sign a professional deal with the Railwaymen.[1]
Neil Baker, Crewe's assistant manager, compared Murphy to former player Danny Murphy, no relation to Luke, "Luke is one who has stood out. He is a goalscoring midfield player who reminds me of Danny Murphy. He has grown into a good size and if he can become a better athlete he can be a very good player" he said in an interview shortly after Murphy signed on as a professional.[2]
