[edit] Career

[edit] Northampton Town

A product of the youth system at the team he supports, Northampton Town F.C., Luke signed his first senior contract on 26 April 2003 and he established himself as a first team regular almost immediately. Chambers made a total of 109(15) appearances for Northampton Town, scoring just the one goal in the league, against Swansea City.

[edit] Nottingham Forest

Chambers signed for Forest for an undisclosed fee January 30, 2007. The transfer also includes a sell-on clause and Chambers was ineligible to play against Northampton Town in what would have been his home debut for Forest. He rejoined former Northampton boss Colin Calderwood and had been a long-term target for current boss Calderwood since he arrived at the City Ground in May 2006. Chambers had been allocated squad number 3 but is now squad number 4. Chambers' Forest career started with most of appearances from the subs bench. However he made his full Forest debut on March 10, 2007, against League One leaders Scunthorpe with the following week making his full home debut against Gillingham.

Chambers is a key player for The Reds and although his preferred position is as a central defender, he adapted well to playing at right-back in the 2007-08 season. Having previously only scored one career goal for Northampton, he has earned himself a reputation for being a 'goal machine' at Forest, scoring eight times in all competitions. Four of them came in August and September, 2007 with two against Peterborough in a 3-2 defeat in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, and twice in the League in wins at Port Vale and Yeovil. He had to wait nearly four months before he found the target again in a 2-1 defeat at Swindon, and then three weeks later scored his sixth of the season to help Forest to a 2-0 win over Millwall at the City Ground. His seventh and eighth goals came in successive matches in April. He scored the first goal in a crucial 2-0 win at promotion-chasing Carlisle United, and a few days later netted again to give Forest the lead against Cheltenham, who the Reds went on to beat 3-1. Chambers was in instrumental form defensively that season, forming part of a defence that conceded the fewest goals in League One, with 24 clean sheets from 46 games. This helped Forest gain promotion from League One to the Championship, the 22 year-old's second promotion of his career.
