Luisa Gándara

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Luisa Gándara is the current First Lady of Puerto Rico.

Following the tradition of previous Puerto Rico First Ladies, the wife of Gov. Aníbal Acevedo Vilá has refrained from holding a remunerative job while a resident of La Fortaleza, Puerto Rico's executive mansion. She previously worked as a high school teacher and as an executive at a multinational information technology firm.

As First Lady, Mrs. Gándara, also known affectionately as "Piti", has devoted much of her attention to educational issues and developed a reading program that has received national recognition, including an award from the Council of State Governments.

Active in her husband's successful Congressional campaign in 2000 and his gubernatorial campaign in 2004, she is expected to be heavily involved in his reelection bid this year.

She and the Governor are the parents of one daughter, a Harvard University freshman, and a son still in high school in Puerto Rico.
