[edit] Appearances
[edit] Season 3
McGrady first approches Michael in the first episode of season 3, wanting to talk basketball. Michael brushes him off but the two later begins to talk. While McGrady asks Michael questions about American cheerleaders and such, Michael begins to ask McGrady for favors that would further his escape plans. McGrady is first hesitant to help Michael. He explains that he survives in Sona by being friends with everyone and that Michael has many enemies. When Michael guarantees that no one will find out, McGrady agrees. McGrady has continued to be of great assistance to Michael, particularly in borrowing his necklace that allowed Michael to temporarily disable the electricity in Sona.
In a clip of visitation it answers the question of why McGrady is in Sona, claiming that he only robbed a car. He is visited by his father in the episode Bang & Burn, apparently on McGrady's birthday. The father appeared heartbroken about his son's life going to waste in Sona, and a somber McGrady reminded his father that he will never come back and that he has to accept this. Later in the episode Dirt Nap he offered Michael all the money he had (173 dollars) to be let in on the escape, only to be told "You don't want any part of this". In Under and Out, McGrady again confronts Michael on the subject of the escape, only for Michael to explain that by leaving McGrady behind, he's doing him a favor. Michael later talks with McGrady about the consequences of escaping, but still unable to persuade him to stay, Michael relents & allows McGrady into the escape, but tells McGrady he can't be responsible for him on the outside. Upon learning of McGrady joining them, T-Bag & Lechero both object.
In Hell or High Water McGrady successfully escapes from Sona along with Michael, Alexander Mahone and James Whistler but then separates from the group after his father drove the escapees to shore. Michael says goodbye and they leave. In a later scene, McGrady and his father Alphonso are in a car approaching a police road block, McGrady begs his father to turn back but his father looks unsure of what to do. McGrady hides in a secret compartment of the car and they manage to get past the police. They then go to Colombia where the law can't get him. McGrady then meets his family again in Colombia. At the end McGrady smiles while looking at a brand new basketball net his family got him in front of an American flag.
