Luis Núñez (born January 20, 1980 in Santiago, Chile) is a Chilean Striker, who plays for Universidad Católica in Chile. He was born in La Legua, Santiago and made a name for himself defending Unión San Felipe. In the 2006 offseason, Club Deportivo Universidad Católica gave him a 3 year deal. However in mid 2007, Núñez decided to take is game to Universitario of Peru, where he scored 3 goals in 14 appearances. He returned to Católica in 2008 and signed a one and a half year of contract. In his first game back with the Cruzados, Núñez spit in the face of Santiago Morning player, José Barrera. According to Núñez, him and Barrera are are from the same neighborhood and were joking around. He also claims that he did not purposely spit on Barrera. The ANFP did not believe Núñez and gave him a six game suspension. Accordingly last season ANFP gave fellow Católica player Gary Medel a six game suspension for spitting on an opposing player's face.
