Luigi de Magistris (23 February 1926-) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop who served as Pro-Major Penitentiary of Apostolic Penitentiary from 2001 until the appointment of James Cardinal Stafford in 2003.
He was ordained on 12 April 1952 as a Priest in Cagliari, Italy. This was followed by an appointment in Apostolic Penitentiary in April 1979. He was appointed Titular Bishop of Nova on 6 March 1996 by Pope John Paul II being ordained bishop on 28 April 1996. He was raised to the level of archbishop of the same see on 22 November 2001.
He was appointed to replace William Cardinal Baum as Major Penitentiary of Apostolic Penitentiary and thus became responsible for supervising the office in charge of the forgiveness of sins. However this dicastary is usually headed by a cardinal and should he have been elevated to the cardinalate then he would have become Major Penitentiary. However on 4 October 2003 he resigned from his position as Pro-Major Penitentiary and was replaced by James Cardinal Stafford.
