Luena (pre-1975: Vila Luso) is a town located in east central Angola. It is the administrative capital of Moxico Province. While no exact figures have been figured yet, estimates on the population of the city varies from 60,000 to 200,000 residents, including an unknown number of refugees from the Angolan Civil War that officially ended in 2002. Following the death of rebel leader Jonas Savimbi peace talks began between UNITA leaders and the FAA in Luena on the 22nd of February. The Luena Memorandum of Understanding was signed on April 4th 2002 ending the war.[1]
