[edit] Notice board

Salut,

If you are intrested you could check this out from time to time: Wikipedia:Romanian Wikipedian's notice board. You can see what other Romanians are doing on en.wikipedia. Thx.

[edit] Rapid

Excelent article Luci. One thing though, can you add some references ore some sources? Mersi. --Mihai -talk 10:00, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Divizia A

I noticed you made an AfD request for this. It should actually go on templates for deletion. I've gone ahead and listed it there. --Idont Havaname 05:38, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Template orase

Lasa o culoare, de fond, nu arata bine alb. --Mihai -talk 14:03, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Nu e bine ceva cand folosesti qif. Vezi Sibiu. --Mihai -talk 15:27, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
I noticed that qif insersts a PRE HTML tag. I am looking for alternatives. It's not my fault, the docs don't say that.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  15:32, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
Congratulations. The template looks really nice by now!!!
I've seen also that you have started added the infobox to other cities (Agnita, Abrud, Adjud). It's very good, but I have a small sugestion, try adding the photos on the Commons, so that they can be used on other language wikipedias. There is already a quite wide category: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Locator_maps_of_cities_in_Romania of romania locator maps.
I also want to discuss something, but I think I should ask others (Bogdan, Ronline) as well. It is about a color convention related to these maps. More precisely the dot collor, I propose to make the color differnt for every type of city: County residence, municipality or just city. For example red for the first, then blue then green, or something like this. I will try to take this on the noticeboard later today.
Wainting to hearing from you, --Mihai -talk 08:26, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
The color stuff is I something I can do, while it is a big chance it will go largely unnoticed hence it is useless (and Bucharest uses a totally different layout for the map). The Commons stuff is something I have to look on - I still don't know how to do it. Basically, when I want to upload a picture, I insert its name in the template, and that creates a link which I use to go to the upload page. This way I'm sure it fits in the page, it gets the right name etc.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  15:24, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
To upload you could use the Upload file link on the left menu, but you should know the name of the uploaded file. About the commons, the main advantage is that any image uploaded there is automaticaly avaliable for any wikipedia project. And to upload an immage you have to do the same thing like here. Btw, don't forget to categorise the images, so they don't get lost ;) --Mihai -talk 15:37, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Slightly frustrated

Dr. Sandor - I appreciate your contributions to the Wiki, and even moreso appreciate your fervor when it comes to removing notable persons from the AfD dungeon. However, I'd appreciate it if, should we clash again, that you refrain from making assumptions about my stances on world relief efforts. Cernen Xanthine Katrena 19:57, 10 January 2006 (UTC)ǘ

Sorry, but you should just google for the person. The fact that she is not Geldof type, showing on TV on a weekly basis, doesn't mean she doesn't exist or she is "any nurse from Ethiopia". What if I was on a vacation? What if I couldn't spare the hour I've lost yesterday looking for sources without strong copyrights? Don't we have regular deletion besides speedy deletion? And, I repeat, don't we have Google? --Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  22:57, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
You are correct, madam. There were several mistakes I made with that article, mistakes I will refrain from making in the future (or at least try; after all, everyone on Wikipedia except the bots are human...) Cernen Xanthine Katrena 19:08, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] qif

Hy

I think you would be intrested in ths one:Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion#Template:Qif.

Mihai -talk 07:43, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I'll try to figure out what is the internal stuff they are using in the template and how much off a difference is between that and Qif template :( . I am not going to vote - it is anyway most likely to not pass as nobody will be able to un-link with the frequency of linking. It will take months at best.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  04:19, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar

I, Orioane, award this Barnstar to Luci Sandor for their great efforts made on the Romanian cities infobox Template.
I, Orioane, award this Barnstar to Luci Sandor for their great efforts made on the Romanian cities infobox Template.

It looks like we've got a supertemplate :D. Btw, check Sibiu about the party ;). Mihai -talk 22:47, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

And hopefully it is WP:AUM compatible, no Qifs at all. I was thinking about categories, they should draw their data from the content of the box too. And the geographical coordinates should probably be moved to Template:coor dm.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  22:56, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Yupe, hat would be a good ideea with the coordinates, but to be AUM compatible there should be no template inside a template. What I do not like about the geo coordinates os that they increase the number of params for the template. Mihai -talk 23:04, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Categories:Romanian cities ruled by conservatives

Hi - I think you may have meant to create this in the Category namespace? If this page is a mistake, just add {{db-g7}} to it. -SCEhardT 05:00, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

I see it solved. Yes, it was a typo.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  07:42, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Suceava

Hello there & sorry for my addition of orasulsuceava.ro. I was trying only to calm down the spirits: adding both of them instead of orasulsuceava replacing lasuceava.ro. If what you say is true, then of course it doesn't deserve to be linked from wikipedia. --Vlad 09:57, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Following what you've told me & trying to keep both articles (this one here & the Romanian one) in sync, I removed the link to orasulsuceava.ro from the Romanian article. So I've got myself a message from an users challenging this affirmation of yours. So I'm a little confused! --Vlad 12:58, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Why don't you just visit the website? You'll see. Even the English stub is better than what is there: tons of ads and lots of unrelated info about the rest of the county.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  05:33, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Luci, just to let you know that I perfectly agree with your decision of removing all three of them; don't worry, the dispute is raging at the Romanian version now, but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks & sorry for all the fuss about this. --Vlad 12:12, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rapid Bucureşti

  • I removed the information about Alexandu Buc after the complaint of his daughter. There was no attribution for the fact as specified by our Wikipedia:Verifiability. As the matter contains negative information about a person, I think it would be best to have a source such as a link to the webpage.

As it is in a section called trivia, I doubt the value of this information in that context. However, if it were in an article about him as a player in context with his achievements, it would be a different story. Capitalistroadster 08:28, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey, we all know that the trial was not fair. But it says somethng about the way Rapid recruited new players in those troubled years. And it says something about a person who is now head of a discipline comittee for the Romanian football association. What if Stalin's daughter comes by and asks us to beautify his article?--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  16:19, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Dear Dr. Sandor,

I am not sure how to understand and rate your comparison Stalin vs. Alexandru Boc (my father). In case this is supposed to be a joke, you should really think about the impact and consequences of such a statement. I would classify your remark at least as tasteless.

Furthermore, you seem to be misinformed. After my father was released from jail, he was not allowed to play for Dinamo or Steaua but could choose between all other football clubs. If you check page: www.romaniansoccer.ro you can see that after jail he played for: Sportul Studentesc and then came to Rapid. It was my fathers decision to go to Rapid and not the other way around. In addition to that, your comment that he went to play because "he was not allowed to apply for a job" (?!?!?!) does not make and sense. Football was my father's profession...

My father was a very talented and famous football player and I think that he had to suffer a lot becaue of the "unfair trial" and basically being a victim of the communist regime, therefore I do not understand why the Rapid Club did not comment on his contribution to football but the jail story. Anyway, that is another issue.

If you really want to write about him, you have enough positive stories to tell and not to reduce his football career at Rapid Bucuresti to this incorrect statement: "Alexandru Boc became a football player for Rapid because, after being released from jail, his probation wouldn't allow him to apply for a job."

Overall I think that people who contribute to Wikipedia should put effort into research and verifying their sources.

Alexandra Boc

Thanks for the input. That means that the official website is wrong. I got your point about the fact that he played for Sportul in the first place, and, as a Rapid supporter, I admit that it is my own hard-to-forgive fault, esp. as I am planning to write a page for every important player (Sandu Boc included). It doesn't matter if you are or not his daughter, the fact is that he already played for another team, and it voids the sentence from from the official website. Please accept my apologies.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  07:05, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, the comparison with Stalin annoyed me more than your translation from the official page. Anyway, apologies accepted and if you want to write about him and need “first hand” information, feel free to contact me: alexandra.boc@gmx.net.

[edit] Super Bowl XL

If you read the debate below your pompous statement on the Talk:Super Bowl XL page, you'll notice that the many people working on the article debated and finally changed the "234 countries" statement you were talking about. In the future I would prefer you edit the article or give your reasons for why it should be changed rather than making a broad generalization about a group of people (and about the editors themselves.) Oh, and by the way the way, how did you get all those messages from African countries about the Super Bowl? Grandmasterka 07:39, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry. I couldn't help it, it was a joke. I know I acted like a troll, but it's soooo absurd to have a broadcast in more countries than there are on this planet, and facing the proof, just to repeat that USA today is a reliable source. It is like that speech Bush gave to the Iraqi people while they had no electricity. It's just a list of countries where almost nobody has electricity.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  08:40, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Poze Rapid

Tu ai ceva poze cu jucătorii de la Rapid care pot fi folosite? Eu am găsit câte ceva pe rapidisti.3x.ro, dar pot fi folosite doar pe ro.wp --Strainu 19:06, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

If you're thinking in terms of old pictures, before the 30's, there aren't so many of them. But I'd say that everything which was published in newspapers before 6 March, 1948 is now no-man land, because it was taken away and owned by the Communist state through unconstitutional laws.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  21:24, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm thinking in terms of current players' pictures. About the unconstitutional laws, it depends on the constitution we're talking about-but that's another story --Strainu 19:57, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Maybe I should stick to English, so that eventual readers will know that, yes, until a week ago, the most listened music style in Romania was forbidden on radio and TV by law. On 10 Feb. 2006 a government decision finally eliminated the passage forbidding "repetead defyings of public's morality and repeated aggressions against artistic and cultural values" ("violentarea repetata a moralei publice, ca si agresarea repetata a valorilor culturale si artistice"), which was the support for repeated penalties against radio and TV broadcasters who dared to broadcast Manele. Due to the succes this music has, the ratings were high enough that most TV stations didn't care and paid the eventual fees. Due to the bias that Romanian internet has against manele, I can't provide any link regarding such a penalty, but I remember they were pretty current in the 90's.--Luci_Sandor  06:10, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I never heard about this. I just know that it is not hard to find a radio station broadcasting them... bogdan 09:28, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bucureşti

Could you point me to that previous discussion? Maybe some more thought should be given to this question, and please note that Steaua is reffered to as "Bucharest" in the same article, which is kind of strange. Conscious 18:30, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

It appeared that you were the one modifying the UEFA Cup 2005/06 page from Bucureşti or Bucharest.--Luci_Sandor  18:47, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Indeed, that was me; but only on one occasion (at least recently). So, was there a previous discussion on the usage of Bucureşti/Bucharest? Conscious 05:58, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
There was some talk here. That's an admin talk page, visited by most of he Romanian contributors. No objections were raised on following the UEFA.com naming convention.--Luci_Sandor  06:34, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, I would object, per WP:UE and the fact that the city is called Bucharest in English. I feel like replacing "Bucureşti" with "Bucharest" and requesting a move of Rapid Bucureşti to Rapid Bucharest. uefa.com, while a highly reliable source, might have their reasons to use national names. Conscious 09:00, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Salut. Te-am contactat pt avem serioase probleme la articolul wikipedian despre Romanians. Dupa cum vezi, user-ii Jayig si administratorul SlimVirgin au pus cele mai joase cifre posibile. [edit] Bucharest metro stations template

Hi Luci! I would like your technical help in an issue since I know you've worked with complex templates before - I have made a template at Template:Bucharest metro stations to be inserted for every station. At the top of the table is an indicator with the previous/next stations and the lines that serve that station. Some stations are served by more than one line. For these, I have experimented with using an optional parameter, as can be seen here. However, these didn't work properly with the stations that had more than one line. The reason I would like to use optional parameters instead of just inserting the "lines-2" and "lines-3" parameters in every page and then leaving them blank is because they produce unsightly spaces, as can be seen at Aviatorilor metro station. When using this method, the stations with more lines (e.g. Piaţa Unirii metro station work fine). When using the #if method, the single-line stations work well (there are no spaces), but the other stations don't work and some of the source code shows up. What can be done to solve this problem? Thanks, Ronline 02:46, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bulgarian towns infobox help

Hi! I saw you've worked a lot on Template:Infobox City in Romania that helped me make some changes to the corresponding Bulgarian infobox, Template:TownBG. Unfortunately, I was unable to figure out how exactly to make that thing show an optional coat of arms together with the map that's always available from commons:Category:Location maps of cities and towns in Bulgaria. Could you please provide some help on that one? Also, here's a short list of changes to the template I'd like to make but can't: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Bulgaria#Template:TownBG. Thanks in advance! → Тодор Божинов / Todor Bozhinov 15:25, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Apologies

Although still a daily visitor, I've been and I would still be incredibly busy and hyper, with the new Princeton job. [edit] Your sandbox fo cities

Hi. I couldn't help but notice that you plan on creating cats for cities according to party affiliations. I think that would be higly problematic (especially since you use the verb "to rule", and since the parties' names are vague) and of little ultimate use (you'd have to switch them around every couple of months in some cases). Please consider. Dahn 10:22, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Don't worry, it isn't used anymore. The majority removed the categories as of January 2006.--Luci_Sandor  21:01, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rutgers University and Princeton University

You removed referenced, valid information regarding rankings at the two afore-mentioned articles. Doing so, without a legitimate reason (as in replacing it with more valid, referenced information) is just wrong (in terms of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines) and just plain disingenuous (it's bad form). As a result, I have reverted your edits to these articles and will be looking to see if you've done so elsewhere (where I shall also revert). —ExplorerCDT 00:24, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I really wonder how removing a stupid ranking which a Communist party secretary wrote on a napkin can be considered vandalism. "Genuine informations" my ass - I lived in Communism and I know how these charts can be done: half truth and half shameless plugs on party's insignificant achievements. When you go to sleep, do you listen to bedtime stories from CCTV?--Luci_Sandor  02:41, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the above statement, please read WP:NPA. If I see any other similar kinds of attacks I'll report it on AN/I. Thank you.--Jersey Devil 04:22, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Like I care. Please also report it to my posterior. Be careful, I just created three new accounts and I will just avoid those two aforementioned universities. Or, better, because I have a job and a girlfriend, I will consider doing it later and I'll leave you focused on my edits.--Luci_Sandor  06:35, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
  • When Oxford or Cambridge puts together a ranking system, then they'll be linked from University websites. It's not self-promotion. Tons of universities offer a ranking of their peers in certain subject areas, etc. The SJTU ranking is actually more informative and the criterion (Though heavily math/science oriented and neglecting a bit of the humanities) is rather comprehensive...much more so than the oft-cited, yet statistically-idiotic U.S. News & World Report Rankings which are nothing more than a marketing gimmick to sell magazines. —ExplorerCDT 21:15, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Just reading your above comments, I am reporting you for sockpuppetry too to make administrators aware of your bad faith and revenge-oriented attitude. —ExplorerCDT 21:15, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on SmartCall, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. [edit] Violation of Wikipedia policy

  1. It seems your articles may have been unfairly tagged by User:Adam12901. Please use established Wikipedia procedures for dispute resolution. If you find you are in a revert war with someone (more than 3 reverts in a 24 hour period), you can certainly request help.
  2. You can certainly remove "speedy delete" tags on articles you've edited, or if you work with the companies mentioned in the articles, add a {{hangon}} tag, and make whatever small changes may be required to avoid the "blatant advertising" label.
  3. Your vow to "tag as spam all the VoIP providers", and obvious [execution] of that threat, is in direct violation of Wikipedia policy and practice. It exceeds vandalism, and could ultimately lead to your being blocked or banned. I don't own any of the VoIP articles, and at this time I have no opinion as to their relative merit as articles, but I've contributed to a few, and don't want to see my good faith effort destroyed.
  4. I request that you remove all retaliatory spam tags you've placed, and use established Wikipedia procedures for dispute resolution with User:Adam12901.

--Lexein 06:45, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

On this: please read WP:POINT. It seems you've been tagging random articles for spam in retaliation for someone else tagging an article you had started. Please stop doing that. Thanks. - Bobet 11:56, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
This is not random tagging. I created two articles when I found that the list of VoIP providers cannot include anything but providers with pages on Wikipedia. When I was told that these two articles are about entities that are not notable, I went to the aforementioned list and selected only those VoIP providers that have less than 1000 hits on Google except Wikipedia clones. I didn't tag Vonage, I didn't tag anything but VoIP minor providers. There is no randomness in my action. I thought Adam's feelings about minor VoIP providers should be placed under the scrutiny of the community. If all the other pages will be untagged, then the two that I created are worth keeping and improving.
I notice now that I was suspected of advertising two competing companies. I also was supposed to remove the speedy deletion tags while sleeping or, generally speaking, having a life. I also noticed that my articles disappeared, probably through a community decision, so it makes sense in the view of the community for the other minor VoIP provider pages to disappear. -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs)
  • I personally do not like speedy delete. The articles disappeared because User:Bobet deleted them as spam - check their logs. You are welcome to repost and expand the articles to notable status, writing them in an informative, encyclopedic way, with more context: are VOIP providers you mentioned remarketers? If so, what are the parent companies? Do they market under other brands? Is VOIP a "killer app" driving Internet expansion in Romania(academic vs business vs personal vs govt)? What's the penetration of broadband(cable, DSL, WiFi), quality of VOIP service vs telephone service, government/political attitudes about VOIP. What's the number of customers? Have the companies been reviewed/compared independantly? Come on, man. For all the time you spent retaliating, you could have written a great article that would never have been nominated for speedy delete in the first place. Oh yeah, sign your Talk entries, and leave meaningful Edit Summaries, too. --Lexein 17:08, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't work for those companies and I am not going to dedicate my life to those articles or to Wikipedia.
FYI: The providers I was talking about are individual entities - they are not subsidiaries, nor super-entities. They purchased their batch of local numbers (10000 in each of the 40 counties) from the ex-state owned monopoly, Romtelecom, the same way Vonage or Skype had to use intermediaries for accessing numbers from the USA LNP. Last week I got from one of them a 7xxx number in Bucharest, but I cannot infer that I am the 7000th customer. They are LLC's so they don't have to report to anybody the actual customer count. Prices are great, esp. compared to Romtelecom, so they don't need any extra marketing lines.
On the ground, although the stereotypes are hard to fight, Romanians have electricity, Ethernet connection is present in 10-20% of the households, broadband via cable in some other 10%.
VoIP and GSM are the killers of the regular landline. All the mainstream fixed alternatives are "triple pay" VoIP coming from cable companies, Astral Telecom and RCS&RDS, disguised through custom hardware a la Vonage. They already have about 5% of the 5M market, after 4 years of liberalization following Romtelecom lost monopoly, while the market shrunk an extra million due to cell phone increased use.
The largest number of Smartcall/TelefonIP users is drawn from the diaspora (3 millions fled to the Western World out of 21). Many of the Romanians I met in the NYC area have phone numbers in Bucharest, it's free after all. Enough said.
People who stalked me, like Andy did, don't need signatures to figure where I typed what, and there is also this nice robot whom I am delegating to this important obligation.

[edit] An Automated Message from HagermanBot

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! HagermanBot 15:38, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tilde

As a courtesy to other editors, it is a Wikipedia guideline to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, and WikiProject pages. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments and your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added along with a timestamp. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info, read Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thank you. Please remember that User:HagermanBot cannot catch every entry, as several of us have had to sign your articles. --Адам12901 Talk 19:32, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:UPC Astral logo.jpeg

Thanks for uploading Image:UPC Astral logo.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:53, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Iuliu_Baratky.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Iuliu_Baratky.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 17:22, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Asybaris01 (talk) 14:31, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
