CorenSearchBot

Hey there.

Did you mean/think that CSBot tags articles with {{db-copyvio}}? I agree that would be a bad idea. It tags article with {{csb-pageincludes}}, {{csb-pageincluded}} or {{csb-wikipage}}. So it never bypasses human review.

Just thought I'd clear this up. — Coren (talk) 23:20, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

deletion -Greaseball Challenge

Hi - We are trying to create a Wiki entry for Greaseball Challenge - why would you have deleted this yesterday? I presume you think this is a copyright enfringement due to cut and paste from another website? Greaseball LLC is a registered US company based in Seattle, Washington. Greaseball Challenge is an event that took place in April 2007 and was documented widely online and in the press. The uploaded content was written by us - me actually - although it is from our website www.greaseballchallenge.com. The person who uploaded is a Director of Greaseball LLC. We uploaded as a place holder and intended to write a proper entry with links! let me know what to do next as we'd like to get this page reinstated please. perplexed, Emily Horgan --Emilyhorgan 17:56, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Your blocking on KeithLam

Hello. I was indirectly blocked by your blocking on KeithLam because I share the same IP address with him. Actually, the IP address of us is belongs to the HKUST and I believe that there are several users affected by this. I am sorry that I do not give the reason for the request of unblocking at once as I copy and plaste those wordings on my talk page since I didn't read the instruction carefully. What I want to ask is that are there any solutions that can block that user only while not block the other users who share the same IP address with him or her? About Anthony's

You've eliminated the article about Anthony's Homeport Restaurant, which is a Northwest-based restaurant chain (and still VERY much in business, unlike Skipper's). It has nothing to do with C.J. Anthony's, a department store chain. I would appreciate it if the article on Anthony's Homeport Restaurant can be restored. Elwin Blaine Coldiron 22:42, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Tor proxy softblock

The possibility of a softblock has been mentioned in the WP:TOR page since September 2006 [1] . Granted, the page is not an official policy. But in the discussion about the exact wording of WP:PROXY policy, there seems to be a consensus there should be an option (if not general policy) of only blocking anonymous edits (and creation of accounts) from open proxy addresses. (If you disagree with this, feel free to contribute to the discussion. Perhaps a workable solution might be that they should be hardblocked by default, but could be changed to a softblock if they are blocking a legitimate user and the address hasn't been abused by vandals or spammers.) - Mike Rosoft 10:32, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

  • By the way, there even happens to be a comment by Jimbo in support of softblocks of Tor addresses [2] in the WP:PROXY talk page archives. - Mike Rosoft 10:53, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Your removal of "Bruno Granier" biography

Cher Lucas,

About 'Ohm:'

I have been visiting Wikipedia for some time now, and I often wonder why bands that I dig are not represented here. I thought that no one was taking the time to do them justice. Now, I am forced to believe that they are not 'notable.' I realize the Jazz Fusion genre isn't exactly storming the Top 40 charts, but you'd think the original lead guitarist from Megadeth and the drumming son of Ginger Baker (of Cream) would earn 'Ohm:' a humble slot here. What a waste of my time. Feel free to delete the entry '"Live" On KPFK 90.7 FM' as well. I'm sure not going to waste my time on this site any more. B C R X C 03:50, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

iPrismGlobal =

Hello Luis. This is related to your speedy deletion of iPrismGlobal yesterday. I wanted to include my company iPrismGlobal in the list of proprietary software List of collaborative software since we are now into version 3 to be launched September 1 and have been developing products for collaborative working and learning since 1998.

I have been working in this field for many years and have done pioneering projects for Xerox, H-P, Caucus Systems, Open Text among others. I hosted the 1999 online symposium for the European Foundation for Management Development on collaborative working and learning which was the genisis for our version 1 product.

I am only attempting to have iPrismGlobal be listed along with other proprietary software List of collaborative software products and believe this is a fair and reasonable request. Can you help me understand why you object to this ? Or, provide me information that will guide me to an acceptable listing. Thank you. Simonzxcv 13:54, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Want to help with the copyright violation backlog?

Hi - I see that you've taken care of the copyright infringement in The Heights (TV series). Do you want to help out with the backlog on Wikipedia:Copyright problems in general? Episode articles of cancelled series?

I noticed a bunch of AFDs on articles about episodes of the "School Survival Guide" show from Nickelodeon. While I'm on the fence about whether they should be AFD'd or simply tagged "plot summary", the AFD comment says "...plot summary of nn episode of ceased series..." Why does it matter if the series was cancelled? Squidfryerchef 19:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Replied on this user's talk page - 10:52, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
I think the series is still shown in syndication; what the article writers mean by "Cancelled" is that no new episodes are being produced. So it's theoretically possible that in the future someone might see one of these episodes, write a book about it about it, which could be cited in the article. But, that's not too likely. So I support the deletion but I'd recommend "cancelled" series not be used as a reason. Squidfryerchef 21:14, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

That is an international tour, reported in the press, which qualifies under point 4 of WP:MUSIC. Regardless of whether you agree if this makes the band notable, this constitutes an assertion of notability, which makes the page ineligible for speedy deletion. Hi,

You deleted an article of mine titled "Paul Westran" and I think the reason you said was something about it not being noteworthy. He was the author of a book that is published and available on amazon.com. does this not qualify? What would be classed noteworthy?

I deleted this article because the article appeared to be about a person but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. This article was also copy pasted from an other website. Help Me - Articles Being Considered For Deletion

{{helpme}}

Hello. Question 1: Is there anywhere on Wikipedia (some list or some link or some page) where a reader can see all of the articles that are currently being debated / discussed / considered for possible deletion? Question 2: Oftentimes, I find out "too late" that an article was already deleted and that the 5-day period (or whatever) is over and done with, and I was not able to particpiate in the discussion. How do I avoid that scenario from happening, without putting every single article of interest to me on my Watch List? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro 17:00, 18 August 2007 (UTC))

You can find the current list at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. For AfD, no there is not much you can do after the discussion is closed (but you can talk to the deleting admin to ask if your argument can convince him to undelete the article). If the article was deleted during the proposed deletion process, when there is no discussion, just contact the admin and he should be able to undelete the article (but anyone can bring it to AfD afterwards) If you need further help, please don't hesitate to post on my talk page or to put {{helpme}} followed by your question on this page. -- lucasbfr talk 17:14, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. For Question 1 (above), I did not see any article names on the page you referred me to. It was just a bunch of rules and policies about deletion. Please redirect me. Thanks. For Question 2 (above), how do I avoid that same scenario in the future? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro 19:00, 18 August 2007 (UTC))
In fact, they are on subpages organized by date Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#Current_discussions. For AfDs, unfortunately I don't see any other way than checking your watchlist often enough. It is common practice to tell people when an article they created is put for deletion, but this is not a requirement. I hope that helps! -- lucasbfr talk 19:08, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I am still unclear, so let me re-phrase my question. If I want to be aware of an article's proposed deletion ahead of time (so that I can participate in the deletion discussion / debate before the debate closes) ... I have two options. (A) I need to have that specific article on my Watch List. And whenever someone edits the article (for example, to propose it for deletion), I will be notified through my Watch List. Or (B) If a specific article is not on my Watch List, I would have to keep checking and re-checking those AfD sub-pages continuously to see what, in fact, is being considered for deletion on a day-to-day basis. Question 1: So, is my understanding correct? Question 2: If my understanding is correct, isn't there any other easier way than to (a) put every single article of interest on my Watch List ... or (b) having to keep checking that AfD page a million times a day on the off chance that one of my articles of interest might be on the list? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro 19:23, 18 August 2007 (UTC))
If you go to the AfD sub-page for the previous day, then you need only check it once a day, or even once every 5 days as no new articles will be added to a day that has passed. Of course, if you find and AfD that concerns you, you will be checking it more often and watching how the argument progresses. As for tracking each page in your Watch list, "Speedy Delete" and AfDs are not likely to come up over articles with a long history or obvious relevance. If you just keep new articles on your list, you can likely cut down the numbers considerably. And, no, in spite of some thinking about this issue on my own behalf, I have found no easier way - yet. Bielle 19:42, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
What I do personally is keeping a list of the articles I want to keep an eye on (separate of my watchlist), and look at them every few days. In case of deletion discussion, there will be a big blue notice (either {{afd}} or {{prod}}) at the top. I hope that helps! -- lucasbfr talk 20:32, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately notifications of AfDs are very human-Dependant and not fool-proof. Categorized discussions uses human-sorting of AfDs according to topics of interest. In some WikiProjects participants specifically monitor and maintain a AfD-list on the list of articles that may be of the project's interest. Articles with no edits after AfD would indicate that it is being AfD'ed provided the nominator correctly includes 'AfD' (or anything similiar) in the edit summary. If you have created the article, some editors may choose to warn you on your talkpage of the AfD out of goodwill. - Best regards, Mailer Diablo 02:00, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks to all of you for the helpful responses. I understand the process much better at this point. Much appreciated. (Joseph A. Spadaro 17:53, 21 August 2007 (UTC))

The Global Challenge Award

Hi,

A young girl from Honduras recently posted an article on "The Global Challenge Award" which was deleted. I had tried to also post one on the project, but was declared a shameless promotion since I am the Exec Dir. This young person was a participant. The program is one of a group of similar programs sponsored by the National Science Foundation that are trying to engage today's youth in solving global warming, through a program known as the ITEST program.

Could you guide me-her-us on whether any article concerning a US national effort of this sort would be as worthy of being included in wikipedia? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dgibson (talkcontribs) 13:29, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

removing my name from El Sobrante

Hello,

Are you person who removed my name from the El Sobrante Art and Literature section?

If so, I would like to point out that my work has been published and exhibited internationally and reviewed in the New York Times and The Washington Post. I am the editor of an MIT Press book on New Media. I was the first artist in residence at Xerox Parc where I was a consultant in the field of electronic literature. My work is currently featured in Spain, and will be featured in the Iowa Review Web this year. I am a board member of the Electronic Literature Association, the former editor of the New York Foundation for the Arts online publication, and a former Associate Editor of Leonardo.

Given that I am an expert in my field, it is not against wiki policy to add my name.

Removing my name is vandalism.
