[edit] A little bit about Lucky Mitch
Hey y'all! My name as you may have already guessed is Mitch. I currently live in unincorporated Longwood, Florida in the Orlando area though I am actually a native Georgian and former resident of Alabama. I played football and lacrosse in high school, so I am really quite interested in the two sports (especially football). I am 19 and am attending Auburn University where I am majoring in Political Science and minoring in Economics. I have been an Auburn fan my whole life. Much of my family all went to Auburn University so I am a HUGE fan of the University (especially the football team the Auburn Tigers).
You'll find that I'm quite interested in politics and that it is rare for me to edit anything on Wikipedia that isn't political. Because of politcs' very controversial nature, you'll also find that I will occasionally get into issue-related conflicts with other users. However, I always try to remain humble, keep an open mind, and assume good faith. Of course I am only human and certainly have the ability to stray from these principles as you may well find out yourself.
[edit] My ancestry
I have recently become quite interested in my ancestry. After much research and interviewing with relitives, I have discovered that most of my ancestors have lived in the United States since before the Revolutionary War. I am of mostly British descent (English, Scottish, and Scots-Irish) but I have also a good ammount of German in me as well.
But no matter what...I am, always have been, and always will be an American and am proud of it!
[edit] Politics
I am Economic Right: +6.00 and Social Libertarian: -1.33 according to the political compass test.
I'm a Free Market/Fiscal Conservative Republican that it is mostly libertarian on social issues, however I usually just think of myself as a "Moderate Republican". In addition to this, I am strongly in favor of a strong military and a foreign policy that puts the safety of America above our global popularity and makes sure we are on the offensive and not the defensive especially when it is with the kind of enemies we are dealing with today. I think this would make me a Neolibertarian or Libertarian Republican.
Of the 3 branches of conservatism in the US (social, economic, and national defense conservatism), I would say I have strong belief in economic and national defense conservatism but fairly weak belief in social conservatism due mostly in part to my faith in science and not religion making me a member of the Secular Right and a believer in Conservative liberalism.
I believe that a limited government is what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they created this great nation that is the United States of America. I believe that as Americans, we have a right to not just social freedom but economic freedom as well. I believe the Constitution was created to shackle the hands of the government so to speak, so that we could decide how to live our lives and not allow the government to live it for us. I believe very strongly in personal responsibility which is perhaps the biggest reason I lean to the right politically. I believe it is wrong to have someone else take care of you and do things for you at the expense of those who work hard and take responsibility for themselves. For this reason, I am against many government social systems, policies and services such as affirmative action, universal health care, social security, raising the minimum wage, and welfare for those without disabilities that prevent them from being able to work, as I find them not only unfair but also ultimately harmful to the economy. Because of this, I believe strongly in a free market, economic liberalism, and a generally laissez-faire economy. I believe that many of the economic policies promoted by Liberals (or "Progressives" as they like to be called these days) as well as many of the social policies promoted by the Christian right threaten many of our rights and freedoms given to us by our Founding Fathers. Overall, I want to live my life free without being held down and having my rights and freedoms violated by the government all for the sake of "the common good". This is a free, proud, strong, efficient, individualistic, Capitalist country and I would like it to stay that way. I really don't want it to become a sheltered, weak, big government-dependant, inefficient Socialist country.
Please feel free to question me about my beliefs. I really enjoy discussions that really make you think about what your opinion and philosophy about things are.
