I was born in Kraków, Poland, on 4 July 1978, as Łukasz Jan Poznański. Like many others, my parents and I left when martial law was imposed in 1981. After a few months in Vienna, we came to Canada and settled in Edmonton.
I had traveled extensively after high school, experiences that were instrumental in shaping my character. These excursions began with road trips throughout the western and south-western United States, and culminated in a protracted exploration of Central America. More recently, I had visited Poland for the first time since we had left, an experience that transformed my life and reinvigorated my passion for traveling.
I am presently an honour student in a four-year degree study at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton, in the Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology (BAIST) programme. Prior to this I had graduated with honours from Grant MacEwan College's Information Technology and Systems Management (ITSM) diploma programme.
I am also the President of the NAIT Outdoors Club, a member of the British Computing Society (BCS) and the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), and hold two industry certifications: Network+ and A+.
Upon completing this next academic year (my third) in April, I plan to complete my practicum here in Edmonton (which comprises the fourth year of my degree), then move to London in early 2008 and apply myself to my profession in the European marketplace. Within a few years, I plan to complete my formal education with an MBA (Masters in Business Administration).
My long-term plan is to draw together my technical and business training with the industry experience I will gain over the next few years, and work toward a position of executive management in the IT sector.
Home at present is an apartment in central Edmonton. My roommates consist of a community of tropical fish as well as a cactus. They don't mind how loud I run my home theatre, or how late into the night I play mandolin.
