Luckner Cambronne was a high-ranking political figure in François Duvalier's regime in Haiti.
Cambronne was born the son of a poor preacher and had a career as a bank teller before meeting Duvalier, the Haitian politician who would become President of Haiti.[1]
His career stared out as a messenger for Duvalier, but he quickly rose through the ranks after developing a reputation for cruelty. He became Minister of the Interior and National Defense under Duvalier. He also became Duvalier's second in command and head of his fearsome secret army, the Tonton Macoute.[2][3]. his reign as Duvalier's second in command is characterized by his embezzlement campaign and his use of public funds for his businesses and enterprises.[4] After the death of his mentor Papa Doc, it was speculated that he would become Prime Minister under his successor "Baby Doc" (Jean-Claude Duvalier) but he was outmaneuvered and exiled by Baby Doc's mother, Simone Duvalier.[5][6].
Cambronne died in exile on Miami, in Florida, on the 24th of December 2006.[7]
