Luciano Vincenzoni (born March 7, 1926) is an Italian screenwriter and one of Italy's most respected writer's for film known in Italy as the "Script doctor"[1]. He has written prolifically for some 65 films between 1954 and 2000.
He is probably best known in world cinema for his script writing of Sergio Leone's For a Few Dollars More (1965) and the The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in 1966 but also wrote for a great number of other Spaghetti westerns. Vincenzoni was also able in the business side of film making and his strong relations with popular and important people in the industry helped him to sell FDM to the European vice-president of United Artists. During the bargaining session, in front of Sergio Leone, he made an on the spot deal for the upcoming The Good the Bad and the Ugly, which was then just a vague idea in his mind at the time. Vincenzoni had started to develop the story all the way back from his earlier film, called "La Grande Guerra" (1959), about three men in the American Civil War. Even the everfamous "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" title was his idea, which he created on the spot. That bargaining success led to all the members of the Leone Core Team, including Vincenzoni, becoming an instant millionaire.
He always had an important role in Leone collaboration, as a middle man, a kind of presentation interface of Leone to the outside world. In the stress of handling all these complicated business affairs, he argued with Leone many timesleone.com/classic/articles/vince.html. In his opinions, after the huge monetary success of Dollars films, Leone never felt comfortable seeing Vincenzoni sharing the profit with him. So, then came a rift between two friends for some years.
Vincenzoni was interviewed on the Special DVD version of the Dollars films, in a behind the scenes look at each film.
