Lubrański Academy

The Lubrański Academy (Polish: Akademia Lubrańskiego; Latin: Collegium Lubranscianum) was a university college established 1518 in Poznań by the bishop Jan Lubrański. It was the first school with university aspirations in Poznań (in fact it was not a "full" university). The first rector of the Academy was Tomasz Bederman, famous humanist of Poznań. The Lubrański Academy was aiming at the independence from the Cracow Academy but it was finally transformed into its faculty. Before that the Academy consisted of six faculties: school of philosophy, school of logic, school of mathematics, school of languages (Latin, Greek), school of law and school of rhetoric. The university was merged with Jesuits Colegium Posnaniae in Academy of Poznań in 1795. Nowadays the building of Lubrański Academy contains the archive of the Poznań archdiocese.
