Luís Filipe Menezes

Luís Filipe de Menezes Lopes (Ovar, 2 November 1953) is a Portuguese politician, affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (PSD). Maternal grandson of Portuguese Nobility, Menezes graduated in medicine at the University of Porto and specialized in pediatrics. Since 1997 he has been the mayor of Vila Nova de Gaia municipality (in Greater Porto subregion), one of the most populated Portuguese municipalities. He was leader of the Social Democratic Party between September 2007 and April 2007.

He married in Porto on 7 May 1980 Maria Cândida Valenzuela de São-Paio Tavares and has three sons: Luís Filipe, Pedro Miguel and João Francisco Valenzuela Tavares de Menezes Lopes.
