[edit] History of women in policing

history of women in policing, prominent and first women police, organizations, and issues

In the US, in 1970 only 2% of all police were female; by 1991, 9% of all police were female.

Women permitted to join beginning in early 20th century, but often restricted to office, street-crossing guards (as memorably portrayed in charlie's angels), and restricted from "patrol"; a distinction seen today in the US military's combat restrictions on women.
