User:Lquilter/InappropriateCategory

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi {{{user}}} -- I deleted a category that you had added to the [[{{{article}}}]] article, [[:Category:{{{category}}}]]. Per WP:CAT, categories are to be added only where they are "defining" attributes of the subject of the article; see also overcategorization which explains that trivial aspects of people or subjects of articles are overcategorization, and why that's to be avoided. It's particularly important that folks who add categories understand how they work (and don't work), because there's no easy way to police categories -- thus, adding an inappropriate category to an article might not get noticed for a while. I do a lot of work with categories, so I'll be happy to answer any questions you have, or talk about them in more detail. Best, --Lquilter (talk) 15:49, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
