Wondering how to edit this département entry? The Wikipedia:WikiProject French departements standards might help.

I'm guessing "famed for its throat sweets/lozenges" was a joke; there's no etymological connection between "lozenge" and "Lozere".Vicki Rosenzweig

Moved from page with miscoded title:

This is a pathetic stub that says nothing. However, I removed the statement that it was a town famous for its "lozenges" since the only source I found for that was the fact that it appears after lozenge in a certain 1911 encyclopedia. Danny

It's now a stub that says a little. (My talk page wound up in a different place; different codings of è? Vicki Rosenzweig
Grr, I thought that had been fixed... This is a browser bug (or "feature") triggered by not escaping 8-bit characters in links. As a workaround: if you switch to the "Cologne Blue" skin in the preferences, you'll only encounter properly escaped links, and shouldn't get those messed-up titles. You may also be able to reconfigure your browser; if using Internet Explorer, look for something like "always send URLs in UTF-8" and try turning it off. --Brion VIBBER, Sunday, July 14, 2002
