Lovro Monti

Lovro Monti (Knin 21 April 1835 - 9 April 1898) was a Croatian politician of Italian descent.
He graduated from law school in Padua (1859), and he was working as an aprentice in Split for a while. Along with M. Klaić, N. Nodilo, Mihovil Pavlinović and K. Vojnović he was one of the founders of the Croatian popular party ("Narodna stranka") and the Illyrian movement.
Since 1862 he has been working in Knin as a lawyer, and in 1866 he became the president of the municipality. He has been elected as a deputy in the Dalmatian assembl 5 times in a row.On the first direct election he became a deputy in a royal council (reelected 1879) . In the 1882, due the dissatisfaction of the new policy of "narodna stranka" he resigned from the public life.
During his mandate it has been done a lot , especially in a agriculture. In his will he has left his farm, lated called "Montova glavica", that included 32 ha the land, 2000 fruit trees, 2 ha vyneyard and couple buildings with a condition that agricultural school must be founded there.
During SFRY , the real estate have been spitted and leader of municipality have assigned themselves the construction yards.the school has never been named after him . He was the "class of gentlemen" and ,according to the criteria of that time, that would be considered as "heresy". However, there has been a monument in front of the schools
