[edit] Background
Loving Wings originated as an intro tease to the song Where Are You Going during the Spring of 2002. During the first part of that summer, the intro developed into a full fledged song with lyrics and key contributions from every band member. It continued to be played as a prelude to Where Are You Going until Winter 2002, when it appeared standalone for the very first time. According to the set lists, the band did not recognize Loving Wings as a separate and distinct song until December 14, 2002[3].
[edit] Meaning
Loving Wings is one of the few Dave Matthews Band songs that includes lyrics which are completely uplifting and leave little for interpretation by the listener. It is a truly romantic song about the ideal perfect partner.
[edit] Live Releases
Currently three versions of Loving Wings have been released on live albums. It appears in the DVD that accompanied The Gorge release, which was recorded September 6, 7 and 8, 2002. The same version, plus one from another night during the run at The Gorge, appears on the special edition CDs that include all songs from all the nights. Loving Wings also appears on Live Trax Vol. 2, recorded September 12, 2004 at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California.
