Lovewrecked (also known as Love Wrecked[1] and Temptation Island[2]), is a 2005 romantic comedy film directed by Randal Kleiser and starring Amanda Bynes. It was originally produced as a feature film by Media 8 Entertainment, but ended up as an ABC Family television film. The Weinstein Company purchased the rights from Media 8 and, after several attempts at theatrical distribution in the U.S., finally sold the TV rights to the ABC Family Channel. The film premiered on television on January 21, 2007.[3] It is an adventurous romantic comedy about a girl getting stranded with a rock idol on a beach in the Caribbean.

[edit] Plot
Jenny Taylor (played by Amanda Bynes) has found her ideal man who she just knows would sweep her off her feet. The only problem? He's Jason Masters (Chris Carmack), the world's biggest rock star. Hoping for a chance to get close to her idol, Jenny takes a job in his favorite Caribbean resort with her best friend Ryan (Jonathan Bennett). When Jason is washed overboard in a storm, Jenny jumps in to save him and the pair find themselves stranded on a seemingly-deserted tropical island. Jenny discovers that they have landed mere miles away from the resort, but instead of telling Jason the truth she lets him believe they are stranded so she can make him fall in love with her. After she discovers her plan, her arch-rival Alexis (Jamie-Lynn Discala) pretends to be marooned as well. As Jenny's plans fall apart, she begins to realize that her perfect love may have been with her all along.
[edit] Production
Principle photography and filming on Lovewrecked began in June 2004 and the film was completed in August 2005.[4][5] It was filmed in the Dominican Republic,[6] in Cabrera, and Puerto Plata. Filming locations also included Ocean World and the Sun Village Beach Resort.[7]
Temptation Island was the distribution title for Lovewrecked when it was released in different countries over the 2005 and 2006 year period.[2] Media 8 Entertainment was to produce and distribute the film, with a US release date scheduled for Summer 2005.[8] Ultimately, Media 8 sold the North American distribution rights to The Weinstein Company. [9] For two years, Lovewrecked sat at The Weinstein Company's shelf, until the ABC Family Network offered to buy the television rights to the film in 2007. The film premiered on January 21, 2007.[3] In May 2007, the film was acquired by Delanic Films in the UK,[10] and was released on May 18, 2007.[11]

[edit] Release
A Director's Cut was premiered in 2005 at the Dominican Republic International Film Festival held in Cofresi Beach where the film was shot. Lovewrecked was cut and released three times to tone down content:
- 2005: Theatrical rating - PG-13 for Sexuality (note that there was no actual sexual intercourse between any of the characters, but scenes that fit under the Sexuality category).
- 2006: Re-rating - PG for Sensuality, Crude Humor and Language.[12]
- 2007: The original U.S. theatrical version of the film received a PG rating from the British Board of Film Classification for "mild language, sex references and comic violence".[13]
The film was shortened as Randal Kleiser wanted to target the film toward more family audiences than teenager audiences.
The Region 1 DVD was released on March 13, 2007.[14] The Region 2 DVD was released on September 17, 2007,[11] and was the 4th bestselling DVD in it first week.[15] In the UK, Lovewrecked was the first film released by Delanic Films,[16] and was released on May 18, 2007.[11] The film opened at no. 6 on the UK box office chart[16] at 235 screens,[15] and grossed £600,000.[10]

Lovewrecked received generally negative reviews. On its Rotten Tomatoes listing, 17% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 6 reviews.[17] Christopher Null of FilmCritic gave the film 2 out of 5 stars, stating that "Bynes has made far better films".[18] Brian Orndorf of DVD Talk said that "Lovewrecked seems like such innocent fun until the tale drains of excitement and the Bynes batteries begin to wear down".[19]
