The Love, Death & Mussolini E.P. was a private cassette released by Steven Wilson under the pseudonimous of 'Porcupine Tree'. It compiles a total of nine tracks of which seven were shortly after released in The Nostalgia Factory, and two of them were new songs. The song "Out" was later included on the vinyl edition of Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape and "It Will Rain for a Million Years" shares its name with a track in On the Sunday of Life... but it's a totally different song and is elsewhere unavailable.
Love, Death & Mussolini was limited to only 10 copies so it is nearly impossible to get. Many of the lyrics on Love, Death & Mussolini were written by Alan Duffy and given to Steven Wilson as a gift. The inlay of the sleeve contains credits to some musicians but except for JC Camillioni all the rest are Wilson's fictitious band members[1]. The back side has the following note:
“ | "Love, Death & Mussolini" is an E.P. E.P. stands for "extended player". An "extenden player" is longer than a single but not long enough to be called an L.P. (a long player). Here then are 3 songs and 2 instrumentals, new material from the band Porcupine Tree. These 5 tracks last for about 20 minutes in total. 20 minutes is a good duration for an "extended player". However, "Love, Death & Mussolini" takes advantage of the cassette medium by including an additional 17 minutes of music taking it to L.P. (long player) length. This is known as "value for money". In the music industry this is known as "marketing". Do your accounting to the sound of Porcupine Tree.[1] |
