[edit] Random tidbits from the 1979 election

The 1972 Edwards/Treen election v. The 1979 Lambert/Treen election.

  • St. Martin Parish: 87-13 Edwards, 51-49 Treen (courtesy of Paul Hardy)
  • Lafayette Parish: 71-29 Edwards, 69-31 Treen (courtesy of Sonny Mouton)
  • Orleans Parish: 59-41 Edwards, 51-49 Lambert (courtesy of Fitzmorris)
  • Jackson Parish: 53-47 Treen, 62-38 Lambert (and Bubba Henry said "oops")

Other large swings:

  • Acadia Parish: 86-14 Edwards, 50.4-49.6 Treen (9822 to 9661)
  • Iberia Parish: 71-29 Edwards, 66-34 Treen
  • Jefferson Davis Parish: 76-24 Edwards, 54-46 Treen
  • LaFourche Parish: 80-20 Edwards, 60-40 Treen
  • Plaquemines Parish: 78-22 Edwards, 72-28 Treen (granted, the 1972 results for Plaquemines could have been fradulent too)
  • Vermilion Parish: 86-14 Edwards, 55-45 Treen

It shouldn't be a shock to hear that Edwards won Acadiana by a 73/27 margin, while winning the rest of Louisiana by 3,952 votes (50.3-49.7). Lambert won Acadiana by a 52-48 margin (212215 to 196100) and lost the rest of the state by a 51-49 margin.

But then again, Edwin Edwards did appear to benefit from Treen's election.
