[edit] Location of Potomac Falls High School

Potomac Falls' website identifies its mailing address as "Potomac Falls" Virginia. The 20165 ZIP Code can refer to either Sterling or Potomac Falls. Though Sterling is an acceptable name for the location, since Potomac Falls is the much more widely used reference I have changed it back to Potomac Falls. -- Johnny06man 03:12, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Links in Elementary Schools

Three of the four elementary school links are misdirected to other schools around North America by the same names. I'm not sure how to redirect the link. Feel free to edit.

Try the incantation [[Name Of Elementary School (City, State)|Name of Elementary School]]. OscarTheCat3 01:47, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
How about removing all wikilinks for now since none of the LCPS elementary schools appear to have WP articles? We can always add them as articles are created. Jim Dunning 16:33, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposing an updated & new format for LCPS summary box for articles

I've put together a new format for the LCPS summary box that can be placed at the end of each LCPS school article. It's also been updated to include all current schools. Comments and suggestions are welcome. See the example below — Jim Dunning 16:20, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

{{Loudoun County Public Schools}}

Seems a bit large to me. Perhaps the different schools could have a "hide" feature, enabled by default? That way the whole box isn't obscenely large or look like its trying to cram in too much information. On that note, do we really need to put the name of the town next to the school name? If someone wants to know this, they can look at the article for the school or the main LCPS article. -- Johnny06man 04:40, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Agree with Johnny06man. TJHSST has no place in LCPS, though LCPS students may go there if qualified, so I think it's gotta go. For other comments, see Talk:Broad Run High School.

"Obscenely large"? Hmph! lol. Point taken and leveraging much of 20176's work I've updated the above example. I think there is some value to identifying the location, but I like 20176's streamlined naming methodology.
As for TJHSST, I think it should stay in the summary -- LCPS lists it on its website and it is funded by LCPS. Just because it isn't located in Loudoun County proper, doesn't mean it isn't a significant part of the school system.
Thanks for everyone's input. There is an html formatting issue for MSIE users I'm resolving and then maybe we can add this to each school's article. Jim Dunning 06:09, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Infobox

I replaced the Infobox with a standard one, as recommended by WikiProject Schools and to make it easier to update down the road.

[edit] Citations needed

I added the {{Citations missing}} template to flag this article for improvement. There's a lot of good info here, but nothing is verified.

[edit] Curriculum and honors courses

I know when I attended Broad Run, the school was in the process of phasing out honors courses in favor of AP courses when applicable. Is this true for the entire county? -- Johnny06man 20:55, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

It appears that BR English may have the only Honors courses left at the school, and that's only 9-11 (12th has AP). I'm curious, too, and a quick check of some other schools' websites turned up zilch. I'll check further this week (go right to the source!). There was an interesting article in the Post a few months back about AP classes replacing Honors classes, vis-a-vis that they are not equivalent. I'll try to find it (I did find this discussion).

[edit] Infoboxes for school articles

Right now we have no uniform infobox for all the LCPS individual school pages. Most of the high schools have non-wikicode tables designed by 20176. I propose we redo all the infoboxes so there is a single design for all pages. I have taken the liberty of redesigning the infobox on Broad Run High School, since right now it is the best article we have. I wanted to use a different infobox template to allow us to change the background colors. In addition, I just thought the previous box looked blocky and unoriginal. If you want to make any changes to my design, I have a workspace for it here. Please feel free to mess around with the colors if you think it would look better, but I did base them off of JimDunning's template for the LCPS infobox. -- Johnny06man 21:34, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I've replaced all the middle school ones and started on the high schools. I may have made some errors in the transfer, so I apologize now and will try to fix them later. -- Johnny06man 21:46, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Loudoun Seal.jpg

Image:Loudoun Seal.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
