[edit] History
LG&E was formed in 1838 as Louisville Gas and Water, but dropped its plans to provide water utilities in 1942 changing its name simply to Louisville Gas. In 1913, Louisville Gas, Louisville Lighting, and Kentucky Heating merged to form Louisville Gas & Electric. In 1998, LG&E acquired electricity provider Kentucky Utilities.[1]
LG&E is now a subsidiary of German utility provider E.ON, having been acquired by British Powergen in the interim.[1]
