The Louisiana Alpha Chapter of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity was chartered on May 7th, 1966, at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. The chapter was colonized by members of the Fraternity from other campuses.[1] Run by alumni members, the Psi of the Tiger is the chapter's electronic newsletter.

First Chapter House

The first chapter house was on old fratenity row.

1985 Reorganization

At the end of 1984 the undergraduate membership in the chapter was only three brothers. In early 1985, the Fraternity sent two Educational Leadership Consultants (ELCs), including Tom Pennington (TX Alpha 1980), to LSU to recruit a new group of students to reenergize the chapter. The ELCs ran ads in student newspaper and held meetings in dormatories to recruit students. Many of the students they recruited were living in the freshman honors wing of Power Hall and the upperclassmen honors dormatory, Evangeline Hall. These students were pledged and the ELCs selected the first officers and committee chairmen.

After a brief pledge period, fourteen pledges were initiate on March 16, 1985.[2] These were:

196 - Brett Crawford
197 - David Normand
198 - J. Scott Thomas
199 - Gary Field
200 - Thomas Richard
201 - Mark Issel
202 - Bart Fouchard
203 - Treb Gatte
204 - Mark Haubert
205 - Tim Schroeder
206 - Bill Hanks
207 - Greg Burridge
208 - Rick O'Neill
209 - Derek Franklin

These brothers were committed to creating a Phi Psi chapter that provided its members with the social advantages of other fratnerity chapters on campus while promoting academic success and without hazing.

Second Chapter House

The second chapter house was an 8 bedroom rental on West Parker Drive, near the LSU campus. This house was occupied from approximately 1988 to 1990, before the Chapter began renting the third chapter house.

Third Chapter House

The third, and current, chapter house is located at 3970 W. Lakeshore Drive, on the east side of LSU's campus. It is among the newer Greek houses ("Sorority Row") overlooking the scenic lakes of the campus.
