Louise Shivers is an author and writer-in-residence at Augusta State University, Augusta, Georgia.
She received a National Endowment the Arts Fellowship and has published two novels. Here to Get My Baby Out of Jail' was named Best First Novel of the Year by USA TODAY in 1983 and was made into the feature film SUMMER HEAT . A stage play FAITH'S AFFAIR , based on the novel made its debut in 2006. A Whistling Woman garnered Shivers the Georgia Author of the Year award in 1993. She is currently writing a novel set in Eastern North Carolina during the Civil War. She and her writing partner Tom O.Turner contribute to Columbia County Magazine , and lecture at Writers Conferences.
