Two Carolingian kings of East Franks have both, rather confusingly, been sometimes assigned the ordinal III as kings Louis of Germany, rather king of Eastern Franks:
- Louis the Younger, son of Louis II of Germany
- Louis the Child, grandnephew of the previous. He would rather have been Louis IV of Germany
