Talk page for Lott Cary

[edit] Blurb for DYK

Did You Know

...that Lott Cary was an African American slave in Virginia who became educated, bought his freedom, became a minister and physician, and helped found the Colony of Liberia in Africa in 1822?

[edit] Birth year

If he died when he was forty-nine in 1828, he couldn't have been born in 1780. He would have had to have been born in 1779. --Saforrest 19:36, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

I have multiple sources for the birth year, and one for claiming age 49 at death. The one about 49 at death is most likely the incorrect one, so I am deleting it from the text for now. If I come across a better birthdate than simple 1780, I will certainly revisit this issue. Thanks for the observation. the collaboration is a part of what makes Wikipedia so much fun.
